India joined 125 other countries in non-criminalizing the gay sex or gay marriages. This step by the supreme court symbolizes the democracy of India. The striking down of the Anti-LGBT law is celebrated across the country and is very much accepted and loved by the citizens.
India was introduced with section 377 under the British rule almost 80 years prior to Independence. The Anti-LGBT law was the part of British Government’s civilizing mission. The law which India has finally broken free. The judgment of the supreme court has given the citizens an occasion to celebrate the real independence day of the gay people.
The rejection of section 377 took place on 6th September 2018. This date should go down in history for marking the meaning of true independence for people belonging to the LGBT community. But the cancelation of section 377 has given them the strength and courage to finally accept the truth.
