New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi today took a dig on PM Modi and said he needs to show up and tell people how he is going to save their lives. She also hit out at the PM’s government for mocking the previous Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh’s solemn recommendations in regards to the current crisis.
In an interview with ANI, Gandhi lashed out at the government over the poor medical infrastructure and conditions of oxygen shortage nationwide. Despite India having the largest production capacity of oxygen, she raised questions on why there was a shortage of the same. She mentioned that the availability of oxygen was not the main issue, the transportation was. Because currently in India, only 2000 trucks are the source of transporting oxygen.
Adding to this, she also talked about the shortage of Remdesivir vaccine, even though 1.1 million of them were exported in the last 6 months. Between the months of January and March, around 3-4 crore Indians were vaccinated but due to a huge amount of export to foreign countries like Mauritius, Guyana, and Nepal, today, our citizens are facing a shortage. She said it was the government’s failure to not prioritize Indians.
The Congress leader expressed displeasure over PM Modi’s response to former PM Manmohan Singh’s letter. She mentioned that being a Prime minister for almost 10 years, everyone knows how dignified a person he is. And during this pandemic, if he puts over some suggestions, they should be taken over up with the same dignity as were offered.
She also said that during these unprecedented times, all the political parties are with the Centre and that all the opposition leaders are time and again giving constructive and positive suggestions. Stressing over the fact that the entire nation should stand united in this crisis, she stated that in democratic governance, the ruling power should show confidence in the opposition parties as well.
Targeting BJP leaders for holding rallies in poll-bound states, in an interview with ANI, she said that the government’s priority should be fixed and clear. Even today the political leaders are busy campaigning and laughing from the stages at rallies. On the other side of the frame, people are crying and screaming to seek out oxygen, beds, medicines, any sort of help while the government is busy arranging rallies and laughing, she said.
Ms. Gandhi claimed over the fact that in a state like UP with a 22-crore population, only 1 crore doses were administered. And that it was brutally cold that the Union Ministers are blaming state governments for increased oxygen consumption in their respective states.
Talking about India becoming an importer of vaccines today, Gandhi blamed it for the Modi government’s lack of foresight. She also emphasized the vaccines not being available to 18–45-year-olds. “The new mutant variant is even more lethal than the existing ones and has affected many young people”, she said.
Earlier, on Tuesday, the Government of India announced that Covid-19 vaccinations will be made available for all people above the age of 18. This came after the cases surged hike and the report claimed that youngsters between 18-25 were affected the most during this wave.
