Breaking all records, India recorded a massive surge of 168,912 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. India is now the fourth second worst-hit nation according to the Ministry of Health and Family Affairs (MoHFW).
Delhi on Sunday crossed the previous record, with 10,774 cases being reported in a day. With the shortage in vaccine stock, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal requested the center to remove age restrictions on Covid-19 vaccination.
The CM urged the people to follow necessary protocols such as wearing masks, washing hands, maintaining social distance, and cooperate with the government so that the spread could be taken under control.
Addressing the rise in cases, CM stated that ” Till mid-march, the situation was under control with less than 200 cases per day. But in the last 15-20 days, after Holi, there has been a peak rise as the virus has spread quickly. Delhi reported 7897 cases on Saturday while the number was 8500 on Friday. The fourth wave of this pandemic is much more dangerous than that in November.”.
He made an appeal to the central government to remove the age restrictions for the Covid-19 vaccine drive. As per reports generated by the hospitals, 65%of infected patients are below 45 years of age and in need of the vaccine to break down the spread cycle.
Pointing out that COVID-19 infection is spreading faster despite the vaccination drive, he said that we must vaccinate faster than the spread of the virus. For that, the state officials along with the health workers are ready to conduct a door-to-door campaign for three months.
Focusing on health management, Kejriwal said, “Do not get hospitalized if your case is not severe or can be treated in home isolation too. Delhi has the best home isolation facilities. We will send teams to your home and provide necessary guidelines and equipments. If you occupy a bed in a hospital which could have been used for a person whose condition is severe, the system would come to a halt. The conditions might be favourable for a lockdown then,”.
CM also mentioned that the state government is not in favor of imposing another lockdown as won’t eradicate the Covid in a complete way. However, necessary restrictions will be taken care of.
