An anticipatory bail application filed by Aparna Purohit, head of Amazon Prime video India Originals was rejected by the Allahabad High Court on Thursday. Allahabad High Court observed that the icons of faith and the name of the majority community were used in the series with the major motive of earning money.
Several other offences have been imposed on Purohit after the complaint, according to which the allegations were made, for inappropriate representation of the police personals of Uttar Pradesh and wrong presentation of the character of the Prime Minister and inappropriate activities regarding several Hindu deities.

The complaint was registered against the web series, on Amazon Prime, called Tandav. The complaints were filed at several locations and the hearing for the matter regarding the Noida registered FIR was taken place in the court.
According to a statement by a single judge bench of justice Siddharth he said that Western filmmakers have resisted from mocking Lord Jesus or Prophets while Hindi film makers are on a continuous track of repeating the mimicry in the most shameless manner with the Hindu Gods and goddesses.
The court has mentioned a list of movies including Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, PK and Oh My God where the use of the name of Hindu gods and goddess were shown in a disrespectful manner.
Apart from this several efforts were made to corrupt the image of historical and mythological personalities including Padmavati in Padmavat movie starring Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. Another example includes Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, the name and icons were used for earning money at a large scale.
According to Justice Siddharth’s statement, the Hindi film industry has started the series of growing such unacceptable activities and if they are not taken care of, disastrous consequences for the Indian social, religious and communal order have to be faced.
An example of a stand up comedian Munavar Farooqui was also considered in the list of disrespecting because the stand up comedian from Gujarat made comments on Hindu deities on his New Year’s eve show to gain popularity.
A plea was made by Purohit regarding the series that the sole purpose of the series was recreation and causing no harm to the religious sentiments of Hindus.
According to the court, the word “Tandav” is related to the acts assigned to Lord shiva and hence can be offensive to the majority of the people.
Across India 10 FIR and 4 criminal complaints has been lodged against the disputed web series and hence the counsel appearing on the behalf of Uttar Pradesh has opposed the application
FIR has been registered against Ali Abbas Zafar- director, Himanshu Krishna Mehra-producer, Gaurav Solanki-writer, among others.
Interim bail was denied to be granted to the accused in late January.
