Ramdev Baba’s Coronil has received intense criticism from Indian Medical Association (IMA). The IMA has said that the claims made by Patanjali over Coronil being WHO certified are blatant lies. The IMA has asked that “How can you promote an unscientific product before the citizens of India?”.
Recently on Friday, Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali launched a product “Coronil” claiming it is effective in the prevention of Covid-19. The product was launched publicly along with the Harsh Vardhan, Minister Of Health And Family Welfare and Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

Patanjali made three claims over Coronil. First, the medicine (Coronil) was CoPP and WHO GMP Certified which means that it holds a genuine certificate of pharmaceutical product (CoPP). Second, it is recognised by the WHOL’s Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Third, both these aspects define the quality assurance in medicinal products.
Soon after such claims were made by Patanjali, a tweet from WHO South-East Asia came out saying it had not certified any traditional medicine to treat or prevent COVID-19.
.@WHO has not reviewed or certified the effectiveness of any traditional medicine for the treatment #COVID19.

Then again to clarify WHO’s remark on Coronil, Patanjali’s MD Acharya Balkrishna, said that the WHO GMP Compliant COPP Certificate is issued by DCGI. He also said that WHO is not responsible for approving or disapproving any drugs.
We want to clarify to avoid confusion that our WHO GMP compliant COPP certificate to Coronil is issued by DCGI, Government of India.
It is clear that WHO do not approve or disapprove any drugs.

Meanwhile, IMA has question the Health Minister that “How ethical is to promote a unscientific product to the people of country in such false ways while you are the Health Minister of the country and also a modern medicine doctor”.
