Meet Swati Rathore, The First Woman To Lead The Flypast This Republic Day 2021

Swati Rathore, an Indian Air Force flight Lieutenant from Rajasthan, unfolded an entirely new chapter in the history of India! She has encouraged women’s empowerment after becoming the first woman who will lead the flypast on the auspicious occasion of Republic Day, 26th January.

The parade will be held at Delhi’s Raj path and Swati Rathore, daughter of Dr. Bhawani Singh Rathore and Rajesh Kanwar, is now the pride of India and an inspiration to women across India.

Early Life

Swati was born in a small village, Prempura in Nagaur district Rajasthan, and did her schooling from Ajmer.

She would often make a tri colour painting during a painting competition showing her love for India. She always wanted to join IAF and become a pilot.

Her parents pushed her to focus more on her dreams and eventually, she joined NCC Air Wing post-schooling. She won a gold medal in shooting.

Swati appeared in the Air Force common admission test in 2013 and was called for an interview in March 2014 by the Air Force Selection Board, Dehradun.

In 2014, during the first attempt for IAF, she was selected and came closer to her dream.

Her brother is also a part of the Merchant Navy. Among 200 female students, according to Swati, from all over the country, only 98 were selected for the screening and only five were left after the screening. Later she was the only one to be selected for the flying branch!

Swati Rathore has now paved the way for so many women out there by her outstanding performance throughout her career and will now be making history by leading the flypast on 26 January 2021.

The 28-year-old IAF officer is all set to fly the Mi-17 V5 where they will be carrying the Indian Air Force flag in a formation of four choppers.

Swati Rathore was a part of the rescue operation too which was conducted during the 2018 Kerala floods by the IAF!

She also participated in the flypast which took place on 8 October 2019 on Air Force Day.

After her hardships and struggles Swati Rathore’s achievements were appreciated and the Former Chief Minister Of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje tweeted that it was a matter of pride for the Veer Bhumi, Rajasthan, that Swati Rathore will be leading the fly past in the Parade on the Rajpath on Republic day. Je wished her for a bright future.

Former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot also passed his congratulations through Twitter and mentioned how she has enhanced the pride of the state and has set a unique example of women empowerment.
