Who Is Arya Rajendran?

After the recent civic polls in Kerala, Arya Rajendran has been brought forward as the next mayor of Thiruvananthapuram.

The 21-year old student has been selected by CPI after the party won the majority in the corporation.

21-year-old Arya Rajendran, the youngest Mayor in Thiruvananthapuram, is a second-year-old B.Sc maths student from All Saints College. She has won from the Mudavanmugal ward of the city corporation and bagged 2,872 votes.

After the votes, 53 of 100 seats were won by LDF in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation with NDA on second and Congress on the third position.

Arya wasn’t entitled to vote in the last local body elections but her continuous active campaigning for the party candidate offered her immense help during these elections.

The exposure during her participation in the campaign brought her good during these elections.

Arya, daughter of CPI[M] activists Sreelatha who is a LIC agent, and K Rajendran who is an electrician, is state president of Balasangam, the children’s wing for the party.

She joined Balasangam at the tender age of 5 and has ever since shown active participation in various campaign activities. She is also a member of the Students Federation of India, a student’s wing of the party.

Her parents are the branch committee members of CPI[M] and her family has shown a great amount of support throughout her struggles.

After receiving so many calls from people to congratulate her, Actor Mohanlal’s call was one which was even aired by the news channel of the party.

What Would Be Her Priorities After Becoming The Mayor?

She is a strong believer in “growing with the party”. She has taken the example of Kerala’s Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan as the leader who communicated with its people and she wants to follow the same footsteps for the people of the state.

As a Mayor, she has taken down a few points which need more attention like the cleanliness of the state. She has seen how her predecessors found this particular problem a big issue, but she is keen to look into this matter.

She has mentioned how not just “She” can take care of the situation but people need to be educated on this topic too. Even the rich are poor in managing waste which is very visible on the busy streets and taking up such a challenging task would be her priority.

Another step, for the welfare of the people, is establishing primary health care centers and she intends to focus on this issue because during the pandemic the lack of healthcare centers was a problem for many.

She has also mentioned that feeding facilities for mothers and making the passage safe for women are some of the many responsibilities that need to be taken care of and looked into.

How Is She Looking Forward To Taking Care Of Her Studies?

During the various campaigns, she had to miss some of the examinations but she is a confident student and has the ability to balance studies as well as the new responsibilities.

She said that she will continue her studies while intervening in people’s issues and finding a solution to their problem.
