After Pfizer, Moderna’s Vaccine Gets Emergency Use Approval From US Food And Drug Administration

US On Clearing Moderna Vaccine For EUA:

US Food and Drug Administration, FDA, has permitted for emergency use authorization of Moderna vaccine, a coronavirus vaccine developed by US pharma giant modern.

The Pfizer vaccine was given the emergency use authorization last week.

Moderna vaccine is developed by Cambridge Biotech Moderna.

Moderna vaccine is ready for rollout even though health workers have already received doses of Pfizer vaccine in the US. A full US license has been intended by Moderna for 2021.

According to the data of clinical last stage trials on 30,000 volunteers for building immunity against covid-19, the Moderna vaccine was found to be 94.5% effective.

Moderna is working with the US government to provide 5.9 million shots. These doses will be distributed by this weekend.

After the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, California turned out to be the most lethal hotspot where hospitals ran out of beds as well as ambulances were busy and waiting outside the emergency rooms during the calamity.

On 18th December California reported 41,000 new cases and 300 casualties.

NIH director Dr. Francis Collins has said that if 80% or more of the American population is not immunized by the middle of 2021 the pandemic risk can go on and on in America.

Britain, Canada, and various other countries have already approved for Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine dose, and the European Union decision is due Monday.

Additional studies are under close monitoring of the scientists to approve the use of vaccines on children and pregnant women.

What Is The Similarity Between The Two Vaccines?

Both the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccine uses the messenger RNA or mRNA technology. This technology develops the immune system inside the human cell to make the proteins that turn against the virus.

Vaccines have been found to be almost equally effective at creating a barrier between the immune system and coronavirus inside the human body. Moderna vaccine was found to be 94.5% effective while Pfizer/BioNTech was found to be 95% effective.

Both the vaccines have to be injected in 2 doses.

Hardly any volunteer got sick during the trial of both the covid-19 vaccine.

How Are The Two Vaccines Different?

The temperature required to keep both the vaccines stable is an extreme temperature. Pfizer can be stored at minus 70 degrees Celsius and requires a specially packed shipping container with dry ice to keep the temperature proper. The modern vaccine can be stored at -20 degrees Celsius for up to 6 months.

After the modern vaccine is defrosted it can be stored for up to 30 days in the refrigerator while the Pfizer vaccine can only be refrigerated for 5 days.

Moderna vaccine is for people of age 18 and above while Pfizer is for age 16 and above.

Shot for Pfizer vaccine has to be given with a gap of 21 days and for Moderna, it is 28 days apart.
