5 Seats Reserved In MBBS And BDS For The Children Of COVID Warriors Who Lost Their Lives

Amidst the pandemic, so many people lost their life leaving their families behind.

To honour the bravery of Corona Warriors the health ministry has included a new category for students pursuing careers in the medical field.

The new category for the selection and nomination of the candidates is named “Wards of Corona Warriors”.

For the candidates, five seats have been reserved in MBBS for this category for the year 2020-21. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, has announced this decision by the government on 19th November in the guidelines according to which seats will be reserved for the wards of corona infected families.

The aim of introducing such a decision was to honour the solemn sacrifice of the warriors in and during the treatment as well as management of the infected patients.

The eligibility for this category will be certified by the government.

The students or candidates will be selected through their obtained rank in NEET 2020, made by the Medical Council Committee, and will be certified by the State or Union Territory government.

The seat will be allocated to wards of Covid Warriors including ASHA workers who work on the ground, the nurses, and the doctors who accidentally died during covid-19 related duty or lost their lives during the pandemic. The admission will be done through NEET counseling.

The reservation has been made available in MBBS and Bachelor of dental courses only.

Various Public Health Care workers considered by the government who define the Covid Warriors are community health workers, Private hospital staff and retired, the local urban bodies, volunteers, outsourced staff ordered by the states or central hospitals, all the autonomic hospitals of the Central States, Union Territories, AIIMS and Institutes of National importance, Central Ministries hospitals are all included in the list.

NEET counseling, 2020, was announced on 27th October 2020. The result was open till 16th November 2020 and the second round for seat allotment, according to the NEET counseling 2020, will be on 20th  November 2020.
