How Was The Suicide Of An Interior Designer Related To Arnab Goswami?
Arnab Goswami, a famous Indian journalist, Republic TV owner, and editor in chief was taken to Raigah after Maharashtra Police picked him up under the 2018 suicide case. He is under investigation in Raigarh and further actions will be decided according to the investigated results, said Sanjay Mohite, IG Konkan Range.
Earlier in 2018 an interior designer Anvay Naik, 58 years old, and his mother Kumud Naik were found dead in their bungalow in Alibaug.
After investigations and post mortem reports the police conveyed the news that Anvay committed suicide and Kumud was strangulated till she choked to death. Kumud was found on the ground floor sofa and Anvaywas found on the first-floor hanging, by his bungalow caretaker.
The police believe that she was murdered by her son before he committed suicide and hence the police registered a case of murder and an accidental death report.
Later a suicide note mentioned the names of three famous personalities- Arnab Goswami of Republic TV, Niteish Sarda of SmartWorks, and Firoz Shaikh ofIcastX/Skimedia.
A suicide note was found after the police found Anvay’s dead body in the bungalow, written in English. It stated that he took the extreme step after the due payments, to him, were not cleared by the owners of the three companies.
Anvay had a difficulty in repaying the amount to the contractors because three companies -Republic TV, SmartWorks and IcastX/Skimedia owned Naik’s company ₹83 Lakhs, ₹55 Lakhs, and ₹4 Crore respectively, and such difficulties paved the way towards heavy debts which Anvay was struggling to repay.
Further investigations brought other twists when the Raigad police found that Naik had registered an NC against a contractor in Mumbai because the contractor was threatened to repay the money.
Similar charges were registered against Goswami but they were denied by him after he said that he had made the payments.
The case was closed in April 2019 but this year in May, Anvay’s daughter, Adnya Naik approached Home Minister of Maharashtra Anil Deshmukh seeking the case to be reopened. Anil Deshmukh tweeted that he has received the complaint from Adnya Naik that Alibaug police have not investigated the non-payment dues relating to Arnab Goswamiled Republic TV.
All the accusations were denied previously by Goswami but Anil Deshmukh has ordered a CID investigation regarding the unpaid amount. Adnya also accused the police of not investigating the controversy of unpaid ₹83 lakh by Arnab Goswami which led to the extreme step, her father took under pressure.
Goswami has been asked to provide the evidence relating to the payments he made which were due to Anvay. Maharashtra Police on receiving the evidence and after completion of the investigation will decide whether the case should be closed or pressed a charge sheet against him.
While CID officials have said that there is no case against Goswami after the Raigarh police was given the permission to reopen the case now.
What Is The Involvement Of Mumbai Police For?
Maharashtra Police persuading Arnab Goswami has no links to the earlier 2018 suicide case. In fact, the Mumbai Police involvement is related to the Republic TV scam.
The scam focuses on the TRP of the channel including five others who were allegedly involved in boosting their TRPs through payments.
Republic has currently denied the accusations. However, an FIR has been registered against Goswami for “incitement to disaffection” over a topic where several Mumbai Police officers for against action of Commissioner ParamBir Singh.
Two more FIRs have been registered against Goswami. One, which states that Arnab Goswami was allegedly communalizing incidents which included the gatherings outside Bandra railway station, and the other was vigilantism of Sandhu’s in Palghar.
Currently, Arnab Goswami has approached the supreme court but he was asked to approach the Bombay High Court where the current proceedings and hearing of the matter will take place.
He was also issued a notice for initiation of breach of privilege motion against him by the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly relating to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.
