APJ Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. He was a famous scientist and served as the President Of India from the year 2002 to 2007. His father name was Jainulabudeen and mother’s name Ashiamma.

APJ Abdul Kalam completed his graduation from Madras Institute of Technology and then he began his career at DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization). He worked at DRDO and ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) for the next 4 decades as a scientist and science administrator. At ISRO, he also served as the project director of India’s first Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III).

Due to his important role in the nation’s civilian space programme and military missile development, he came to be known as the Missile Man Of India. He made his contributions in the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology. He also made some of his remarkable contributions in India’s Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998.


Later on in his life, he became the 11th President Of India with the support of both Bharatiya Janata Party and Indian National Congress. He also served as the Chief Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister Of India in the 1990s before becoming the President Of India.

During his journey, Kalam became popular as “People’s President”. He was honored with many reputed awards including Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour. Eventually, Kalam died on the evening of Monday, July 27 from an apparent cardiac arrest while delivering a lecture at Indian Institute of Management, Shillong at the age of 83. The funeral ceremony was held in the hometown of Kalam in Rameshwaram. Many national-level VIPs attended his funeral ceremony and he was buried with full state honors.
