Meet Dr. Uday Modi who has been feeding 500 elderly people abandoned by their own children for 10 years on a daily basis in Mumbai and absolutely free of cost.
Dr. Modi aims to feed elderly people who are not able to get a meal due to various household and health problems. Today, Dr. Modi nearly feed 500 people.
He started this service when he moved to Mumbai from a small village in Rajkot, Gujarat. 10 years ago, an incident completely changed his life.
Dr. Modi said, “One of my patients was an old fellow, he must have been around 78. He showed up at my door, all helpless. Her wife was extremely ill and couldn’t do anything on her own. This couple was old, poor without even 10 rupees to buy a vada pao. He said he needed food, it moved me and that is when I decided that I want to feed the needy elderly for nothing in return,”
Dr. Modi started “Sharavan Tiffin Service”. Initially, they started delivering only 11 tiffins now, they deliver about 200 tiffins daily to the needy, helpless and abandoned elderly people of Mumbai’s Mira-Bhayanadar area.
“My chest swells with pride when my kids come back and give me tiny bits of their savings to be put in for the seva. Lots of people come forward and support, I am sure it will go on, and with the grace of God, we will be able to reach out to more and more helpless elderly people,” said Dr. Modi
Dr. Modi is also willing to build Dikra nu Ghar, a home for elder people just like their own son’s place where everything should be cared of including food and everything.
We respect you Dr. Uday Modi for such a great work you are doing and we hope for the best.
