Indian government made enough laws for women to keep them safe from the cruelty of the world. Sadly these laws didn’t put end to the crimes but surely provided punishment to the culprits. The unequal ratio between the men and women forces the government to be extra careful of the female population and therefore these strict laws are there to make you feel safer. Following Are The Laws Set By The Indian Constitution For Women:
1. Eve Teasing Or Cat Calling
Under the section 294 and 509 of IPC i.e. Indian Penal Code, any person or a group passing vulgar, offensive comments on women or touching her without her permission can lead them to jail.
2. Child Marriage
Even though child marriages are strictly prohibited, there are still some areas practicing this banned act. And if you get caught marrying girls before the age of 18 i.e. the legal age for marrying then prepare yourself to be locked up. This may apply to both girls and boys but most girls are the victims in such cases.
3. Improper Police Procedure
Only lady police officers are allowed to check you or even touch you. You can not get arrested in the absence of Lady police. Every police station must have a lady police officer available all the time. And also, a woman can only get arrested before sunset and after sunrise.
4. Minimum Salary
Indian Constitution has set minimum wages for every profession. Whether the women are skilled, semi-skilled or unskilled, they should be given the minimum wages. In Delhi, the minimum wages for any work is set to be Rs. 423.
Dowry is strictly banned in India now. So any exchange of money even in the form of goods are not accepted and threatening or harassing the woman for dowry can get in a lot of trouble.
6. Succession Of Property
According to the laws, any individual regardless of the gender should get the property of his/her ancestors who happens to have the right on the property.
7. Domestic Violence
Domestic Violence is an intolerable offense. And if you do it then you could immediately land up in jail. However, this law doesn’t specifically apply to women because several cases of men being the victim of domestic violence are also seen.
8. Offensive Propaganda
If you post, advertise, publish or execute any kind of activity that is responsible for indecent representation of some women that it is taken as a crime under Indian constitution.
